  • Winston Churchill resigned as Prime Minister on April 6, 1955, six months after his 80th birthday.

Historical Figures

  • Henry George Reginald Molyneux Herbert, Lord Porchester, the Queen's racing manager (Joseph Kloska). The son of George, 6th Earl Carnarvon and American heiress Catherine Wendell, he was known as "Porchey", as was his father before him. A lifelong friend of the Queen, Porchey became her racing manager after his service in the Royal Horse Guards. Once thought to be a suitor for the Princess Elizabeth's hand, he married American heiress Jean Wallop of Wyoming. On his father's death in 1987, Porchey ascended to the title 7th Earl of Carnarvon. Porchey died in September 2001; his son, George is the sitting Earl of Carnarvon.
  • Graham Sutherland (Stephen Dillaine), a modernist painter commissioned to paint a portrait of Winston Churchill as his 80th birthday gift from the Houses of Parliament.
